Taking Care of Others
This week we have been looking at the people who help us in our local community and our role models. The children wanted to have a go at looking after someone who might need more help and they demonstrated a fantastic job at looking after the dolls this week. They could explain that a baby needs to be warm, and that you must be gentle with them. We reinforced 'health and self-care' and discussed how we should keep ourselves clean and wash our hands.

Maths has been keeping us very busy! We have been sorting objects into groups by: colour, shape and size. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary: same, equal, sort, groups, match, big, small, shape and colour. We have been practising how to explain 'why' in maths.
Following this, we have been comparing size, amounts, length and height. We have been building on our knowledge of sorting and used vocabulary such as: bigger than, smaller than, taller, shorter, longer and equal.

We have been so busy! We have settled into school and know our routines well. We have begun our Read, Write, Inc Phonics scheme and practised letter sounds, playing Fred games and letter formation.
Our new role play area has been very popular and this week it has been transformed into a dentist, which links with our topic of 'Big, Wide World' as we look at the 'healthy me' aspect.

Our First Week!
Reception have settled in school extremely well this first week! The children have had lots of fun and have been doing some 'COOL' learning (Carrying On Our Learning). We have seen fantastic collaboration and have started to understand our school values:
Look out for us wearing a sticker with our school values on and ask us what we did to achieve it!
Our first topic is 'Big, Wide World', this will take us on a journey beginning with ourselves and our family and then transport us through people in our local community and then celebrations and festivals around the world.
