Curriculum

At Beaconside Primary and Nursery School we are dedicated to delivering an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that reflects our commitment to every pupil's success. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of all our children, ensuring a safe, stimulating, and respectful learning environment where every child can thrive.

Our Curriculum Vision

Rooted firmly in our school vision and values, our curriculum aims to:

  • Foster a safe, happy, inclusive, and caring environment where children and staff respect and value each other.
  • Equip pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and succeed in a rapidly changing world.
  • Build a community based on excellent behaviour, tolerance, and fun, promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development of every pupil.
  • Encourage pupils to become self-motivated, self-critical, and valued citizens who understand their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of diversity and inclusion.
  • Strengthen effective partnerships between the school, parents, governors, and the wider community to support pupil learning.

Curriculum Structure and Content

Our curriculum is fully aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring that all statutory requirements are met and that pupils receive a broad and balanced education. We have high expectations for all pupils, aiming to challenge and inspire them while being sensitive to their individual needs and backgrounds.

Key features include:

  • Inclusive Learning: Our curriculum is designed to be accessible for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Adaptive teaching and personalised learning plans ensure every child can access the curriculum meaningfully.
  • Contextual Relevance: We consider our unique geographical and social context on the Birmingham/Worcestershire border, integrating local community links and global perspectives to prepare pupils for life beyond school.
  • Future-Focused Skills: Alongside core subjects, we emphasise skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and digital literacy, preparing pupils for the challenges of the 21st century.
  • SMSC and British Values: Our curriculum actively promotes spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, alongside fundamental British values, nurturing respect and understanding of cultural and religious diversity.
  • Enrichment Opportunities: Through a rich variety of topics, projects, forest school activities, and the arts, pupils engage with a broad spectrum of experiences that inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

How Our Curriculum Meets Pupils’ Needs

We recognise that each pupil is unique. Our curriculum:

  • Provides personalised support and challenge to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Encourages pupil voice and participation, fostering self-motivation and confidence.
  • Builds strong foundations for future learning, ensuring pupils are well-prepared for secondary education and beyond.
