What a week!
I came to work Monday knowing it would be one of those weeks, but even I underestimated what lay in store.
At 10.30am, with several staff off and four people sat in the staff room waiting to be interviewed for the various maternity posts we have, I also received an phonecall from OfSTED saying they were coming to carry out a two-day inspection the following day and needed a 90-minute phone conversation. We were expecting the call but not in the middle of such a crisis. Luckily as the day progressed, they agreed to defer the inspection which was a good job as the Coronavirus and its impact really kicked in. Then the fun and games really started for the rest of the week.
Like many of you, I have found this time worrying due to the health of family members; my own father is particularly ill and I, again like many of you, rely heavily on my parents for childcare which they could no longer provide. I won’t even start about the state of the shops by the time I got there every night!
However, upon reflection and after finally getting some sleep, last night, I am going to end this week on a positive note.
I have had so much support from my fabulous team, here at Beaconside, who have offered help and support, above and beyond so that the school could stay open and the pupils remain calm and safe. I have had many kind words and offers of help from you, our families, from offering to help out in school, the use of photocopiers, delivering home learning packs and even getting some shopping for me, not to mention the cakes, chocolates and other goodies that arrived in the staffroom. I can’t tell you how much this means to all the staff.
I am so proud to be the headteacher of this fantastic school and I wish you all a restful weekend. I will be in touch next week to check in with you all.
