The Acorn Club is an extended schools provision run by Beaconside Primary and Nursery School and is based in school grounds. At The Acorn Club we aim to provide a safe and secure and relaxed environment, offering a range of activities to reflect the interests of the children in our care.
The club is open from 7.30am – 8. 45am and 3.20pm – 6.00pm, weekdays, during term time.
We are situated in the mobile classrooms, on the Key Stage 1 playground and enjoy the outdoor facilities that the school offers.
A healthy breakfast is provided for those attending the morning session, in-line with School Food Standards guidelines. Children can choose to eat breakfast at home before they join us.
The food we provide after school is not intended as a substitute for a main evening meal, it is simply a snack to fill a gap until tea time. Fresh drinking water is available at all times. We meet individual dietary requirements wherever possible.
When attending holiday clubs, pupils are required to bring a packed lunch and snacks for mid-morning and late afternoon.
The Acorn Club is staffed by a team of adults known to the pupils through their other roles within school. The aim is to provide a smooth transition between school and club to ensure that the ethos and expectations of both staff and pupils is consistent.
All of our staff are fully qualified, have significant experience of working with children and undertake professional development training. We follow good practice guidelines and have a staff/child ratio of 1:8 for children under the age of eight, and a ratio of 1:10 for children over the age of 8.
We no longer offer holiday care provision however an external provider (St Oswald's) will be running a holiday club at Beaconside. (booking form available from school office)
